Gpu diode what is. Should i install smc fan control. The gpu is the temperature of the ihs. It showed the gpu diode at being 1070c hot.

The main temperature is the gpu diode which is measured by the gpu itself using its on die temperature sensing logic. Celsius gpu diode 73 deg. There should be 2 of them on most cards.

Gpu vrm1 and gpu vrm2 are the two rails of the onboard power regulator chip eg. I have the new 27 imac and when checking istat my gpu diode temperature seems very high. I have the amd radeon 6970m 2gb vram if that helps.

The diode can get very hot dont worry about it. I was concerned my mbp was working too hard but it is nice to know the gpu has that high of a threshold. Its at 187 degrees fahrenheit sometimes when the computer is doing nothing at all.

Few of the cards in every brand have vrm thermal design issues i believe so far noticed in his and sapphire 7950 leading to vrm temps of up to 40c more than the gpu thermal diode reading. Is that bad for the gpu diode or other components inside the macbook pro. Using everest ultimate edition software.

Motherboard 50 deg. Pcwizard 2008 says its at 605c. Your temps are fine.

Most software reports the ihs temperature not the diode temperature. Use gpu z scroll in sensors tab or hwinfo64 to get your vrm temperature readings. Gpu diode is the core temperature its like the core temperature in a cpu.

Please post a positive reply and please refrain from any guessing assumption and unsure replies. Nvidia monitor should be reporting the temperature of the ihs not the gpu diode. However when i start doing more it does rise to 60c and slightly above.

What exactly is gpu diode. I usually have an evaporative cooler in my loft but the motor went all whack lucky to get the 300 bucks back on a refund but what concerns me is the temp of my gpu diode which is usually around 38c now at around 50c and was up to 58c earlier. But i am using an external monitor so i think that is adding to the heat.

I was using it at normal room temperature and the macbook pro was sitting on a wooden desk. Celsius these are my units temp. Right now the gpu diode is at 60c and the gpu itself is at 250c and all im doing is browsing with safari.
